President Obama on Leno

For those of you who did not get a chance to watch President Obama Thursday night....I offer, for your perusal, this link to "The Tonight Show".

And by the way...for the record, FOX, LA Times, et al. The AIG mess, and the bailouts, and the lack of rules on oversight of the administration of those bailouts AND THE CONTRACTS that were written pertaining to those bailouts...all happened prior to President Obama taking office....

...and yet, he takes responsiblity because he's got cajones, something the previous administration did not have

My Thoughts on the Inauguration

Dianne Feinstein is obviously reading from a page....didin't anyone teach her how to read a teleprompter...."Sweet Victory of this hour..." this was an excellent line.

I wonder how many times we are going to hear the words "God Bless America Today"

Couldn't help but notice the BOO or two when Rick Warren took the stage....and was almost waiting for him to segue into the serenity prayer...for a second there.

One day all nations and all people will stand accountable before you....except gay folks that is.

Yitzach AND YO YO MA AND Barack Obama....Pinch me

Here are my impressions of Obama's speech in real time as it was happening. (forgive the typos)

"Yet every so often the oath is taken among gathering clouds"...warming up to the pallor of the speech...here it comes.

The Obama Inauguration...Dawn of a new day.

Barack ObamaYou are not living under a rock...(or you wouldn't be here on my site reading this.)...so I don't have to state the obvious fact that Barack Obama is being sworn in today as our nations 44th President.

It's not just that he is our nations first Black President that makes the occasion so momentous.

What is momentous is that our nation ELECTED our first black President.

It has OH so much more to say about us as a nation than it does about Barack Obama.

For the last 2 or 3 campaign cycles, my family has gotten involved with knocking on doors, making phone calls, manning computers, and producing media aimed at getting people to the polls and inspiring people into the corner of the candidate we supported.

The Voice Of Sarah Palin

OK. This post is going to be about sound.

More specifically, I would like to address the SOUND of Sarah Palin's voice.

For the sake of full disclosure I have to admit something to you: I have not been able to watch to completion, nor desire any longer to finish watching the movie "Fargo" because the accent of the main characters voices drives me absolutely INSANE!

The gentle, and fabulous dispositions of the people from the Dakotas aside...I'm afraid that my problem with the accent might go back to my childhood, where I had a teacher in 5th and 6th grade (One teacher...small school...two grades...all of us together in the same room for both years) named Mrs. Bowen.

Mrs. Bowen did not WASH the blackboards...she WARSHED them. She didn't drive a car she drove a CAAAHR. Hockey wasn't Hockey it was HAAHWKY.

She did NOT proclaim: "I want y'all to be quiet and listen to me while I read" (as any good southerner would)
Mrs Bowen proclaimed things like "IWanchAH t'AHL beQUITE and listen t'ME whiile iREEEED)

It was an excruciating two years, so my aversion to the accent, I am willing to admit, might simply be a psychological one.

Hillary Needs to Concede

The Democratic runoff is not about Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.

It's not.

It is about the United States.

It is about making sure that the United States is able to regain it's place in the world.

It is about making sure that we the words "United States of America" bring with them the awe, reverance, and gratitiude that they once did.

It is about making the words "United States of America" aspire the worlds children, and put a gleam in the eyes of aged European shopkeepers like it used to.

It is about making certain that the world wants to work WITH us again, and to stop hating us because of what Republicans have done.

This Democratic runoff is also NOT JUST about who is going to be in a position to battle the Republican party for the presidency...because 4 more years of George Bush's policies (which is what McCain now appears to be talking about implementing) would present the world with 4 more years of a United States in the same position that Bush foisted upon us...so what Hillary is doing to the Democratic Party does not bode well for the future of the world...or of mankind in general.
